Flyers and Flames clash in Calgary

Feb 25, 2012 - 4:23 PM (Sports Network) - After failing to win consecutive games for the first time in almost two months, the Philadelphia Flyers seek a fourth straight win at Calgary as they take on the Flames.

The Flyers opened up a four-game road trip with an overtime win at Winnipeg on Tuesday, but was shut out two nights later in Edmonton. Philadelphia was handed a 2-0 setback as Oilers netminder Devan Dubnyk made 35 saves.

Ilya Bryzgalov allowed both goals on 29 shots, though he did come up with a stop on a penalty shot with 2:54 to play in the third. Still, Philadelphia has lost seven of its last 10 and hasn't won consecutive games since Jan. 10-12.

The Flyers had the better of chances in the first period, outshooting Edmonton, 14-9, but the Oilers came out charging in the second and scored twice.

"We just came out flat in the second period and they took it to us," said Philadelphia center Danny Briere. "We got a big effort from Bryzgalov and he gave us a chance to win until the end, we just couldn't get it going."

Once a contender for the Atlantic Division crown, the Flyers sit in a tie with the Penguins for fifth in the Eastern Conference with 73 points. That is one point behind the Devils, but also just one point up on the Senators as well.

Philadelphia was without Sean Couturier due to a lower-body injury and is day- to-day.

The Flyers have lost two of their last three versus the Flames, but they did notch a 3-0 victory in their last trip to Calgary on Feb. 1, 2010. It was their third straight win on the road versus the Flames.

Calgary has lost three of its past four and enters this contest two points behind Dallas for the eighth spot in the West with 66 points.

The Flames did notch a point last time out, dropping a 4-3 shootout decision to the visiting Coyotes. Alex Tanguay, Olli Jokinen and Matt Stajan scored the goals, but Jokinen, Tanguay and Jarome Iginla all failed on their shootout attempts.

Miikka Kiprusoff made 26 saves through overtime and was bested just once in the tiebreaker.

"We're not as sharp as we need to be. I'm not happy with our last four games," Flames head coach Brent Sutter said. "We need to play every game like it's the playoffs."

Calgary has lost the first two of a four-game homestand.
