Canucks welcome Habs to town
Mar 10, 2012 - 4:17 PM (Sports Network) - The Vancouver Canucks try to make it two straight wins this evening when they welcome the Montreal Canadiens to General Motors Place.Vancouver stopped a two-game losing streak on Thursday, as Samuel Pahlsson scored the game-winner with 5:43 to play to lift the Canucks to a 3-2 win over the Winnipeg Jets at Rogers Arena.
"It hasn't been going in for me lately so to get that one is big," said Pahlsson. "It's not my main role out there, but you want to get goals once in a while."
Ryan Kesler and Alexander Edler each scored for the Canucks, while Cory Schneider posted 30 saves in the win. Roberto Luongo will likely be back between the pipes tonight, but has allowed at least three goals in five of his last six games.
Vancouver holds a comfortable 18-point lead over Colorado for the top spot in the Northwest Division with 92 points and sits one point back of St. Louis for the top spot in the Western Conference and overall in the NHL.
The Canucks could get a little closer to that top spot tonight, as they have won 10 of their last 11 at home versus the Canadiens. Vancouver also earned a shootout win in Montreal back on Dec. 8.
Montreal comes into tonight's affair on a winning note after Max Pacioretty scored twice and added an assist in the Canadiens' 5-3 win over the Edmonton Oilers on Thursday.
P.K. Subban posted a goal and two assists for the Canadiens, who had dropped seven of eight coming into the game. Peter Budaj posted 24 stops in the win.
"I'm happy that I was able to help us shake off this losing streak," said Subban. "I thought we kept the game simple and just tried to play solid every shift."
Vancouver is 20-8-4 as the home team this year, while the Habs are 14-17-2 on the road.
