Marchand helps Bruins edge Jets
Feb 18, 2013 - 3:03 AM Winnipeg, MB (Sports Network) - Brad Marchand scored the go-ahead goal early in the third period to lift the Boston Bruins over the Winnipeg Jets, 3-2.Tyler Seguin and Daniel Paille also scored for the Bruins, who snapped a two- game skid. Tuukka Rask made 21 saves.
Boston also beat Winnipeg on Jan. 21, a 2-1 shootout victory.
Alexander Burmistrov had a goal and an assist for the Jets, who have lost three in a row. Evander Kane also lit the lamp.
Ondrej Pavelec stopped 23-of-26 shots for Winnipeg, which played without Tobias Enstrom due to a shoulder injury.
"It's tough. We played tonight against another great team and we lost," Pavelec said.
Marchand broke a 2-2 tie just 36 seconds into the third period. The Bruins went on the power play when Ron Hainsey was sent to the penalty box for tripping. Marchand's backhander from the bottom of the right circle beat Pavelec glove side.
The Jets almost tied the game in the final seconds. A shot on net resulted in the puck sliding along the goal line as time expired.
"It was a bit of a yard sale there. Didn't go in, that's all that matters," Rask said.
Burmistrov broke a scoreless tie 1:43 into the second period. A shot from the right point hit traffic in front and ended up on the stick of Burmistrov, who put the puck in the back of the net.
The Bruins tied the game at the 10:57 mark. Zdeno Chara's shot from the left point was deflected in by Seguin.
Winnipeg took the lead back with 26.3 seconds remaining. Kane put home his own rebound following a shot from between the circle.
With just 1.5 ticks left on the clock, Paille lit the lamp to tie the game. Johnny Boychuk's shot from the right point was deflected in by Paille.
