Morrow, Turco help keep Stars unbeaten
Oct 15, 2006 - 5:22 AM LOS ANGELES (Ticker) -- Brenden Morrow's leadership is one major reason the Dallas Stars are off to a dominant start this season.Morrow scored twice, defenseman Stephane Robidas collected three assists and Marty Turco made 24 saves as the Stars remained undefeated with a 4-1 victory over the Los Angeles Kings.
Also having posted a 4-1 triumph over the Kings here Thursday, the Stars (4-0-0) are off to the second-best start in franchise history. Dallas has won all three road contests this season and has beaten Los Angeles twice after dropping six of eight encounters in 2005-06.
Morrow, who set a career high with 65 points last season, signed a six-year contract extension and was named captain in September. He netted a pair of power-play goals, giving him 11 tallies and 11 assists in 37 career games against Los Angeles.
Mike Ribeiro game Dallas a 1-0 lead at 13:44 of the first period before Morrow scored his first of the contest 78 seconds later when he redirected Robidas' slap shot from just inside the blue line past goaltender Mathieu Garon's glove.
After Jere Lehtinen netted his first tally of the season in the second period, Morrow struck again when he knocked in a rebound of Robidas' slap shot inside the left post for his fourth goal of the campaign.
Turco stopped eight shots in the first period, six in the second and was heading for his first shutout of the season and the 25th of his career before Michael Cammalleri scored on a power play with 2:43 remaining.
The 31-year-old Turco raised his record against the Kings to 8-8-3 and tied Gilles Meloche for third place on the franchise victory list with 141, four behind Cesare Maniago for second.
Garon made 24 saves for Los Angeles, which played the third contest of a season-high six-game homestand.
