Hossa, Sharp power Blackhawks past Stars

Nov 10, 2013 - 6:24 AM Dallas, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Marian Hossa lit the lamp twice and Patrick Sharp tallied four assists as the Chicago Blackhawks defeated the Dallas Stars, 5-2, at American Airlines Center.

Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane each collected a goal and assist, while Nicklas Hjalmarsson netted an empty-net goal.

"We have a team that we feel can score with any line and our defense is great at moving the puck and jumping the play. We just try to build off each other and create offense," said Sharp.

Chicago netminder Corey Crawford stopped 31-of-33 shots fired his way. The Blackhawks have now won five of their last six.

Cody Eakin and Tyler Seguin scored for the Stars. Kari Lehtonen allowed four goals on 30 shots in the defeat as Dallas had its win streak halted at three games.

"We are confident and we are gelling more and more as the days go by. There are a lot of new faces in here including myself and a lot of new lines so it's going to take time. If you look at the last four games including tonight we are really coming together. We have a more confident group than what we started the year with and we're going to stick with that confidence," said Seguin.

Down 2-1, the Blackhawks scored four unanswered goals in the latter half of regulation to skate away with the victory.

Chicago tied the game as Toews fought past two defenders to tap in his own rebound with 9:41 left in the second, then Kane quickly took advantage of his team's first power play later in the period with a slap shot that eluded Lehtonen at 18:15.

Hossa scored his second of the night on a breakaway with less than two minutes remaining in the third. Sharp won a battle on the boards in the neutral zone and found a streaking Hossa, who beat Lehtonen short side for a 4-2 contest.

Lehtonen was barely on the Stars' bench when Hjalmarsson launched the puck down the ice for a short-handed, empty-net goal less than a minute later to account for the final score.

Dallas took the lead with just over six minutes played. Trevor Daley skated across the slot and threw a backhand shot on net. Shawn Horcoff quickly jammed away at the puck in the crease before Eakin came over to help out and knock in the puck.

Marian Hossa tied the game a little over 10 minutes later, by driving to the net and knocking in a pass from Toews, who set him up from behind the Dallas cage.

Jamie Benn found Seguin near the right circle and Seguin roofed the puck over Crawford to break the tie 6:54 into the second.
