Kings try to keep win streak going vs. Sabres

Nov 12, 2013 - 4:04 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The Los Angeles Kings will try to match their longest winning streak of the season when they visit the Buffalo Sabres for Tuesday's battle at First Niagara Center.

The Kings recently went 3-1-0 during a four-game homestand and won the final two tests of the residency, beating Buffalo and Vancouver in the City of Angels. L.A. is aiming for its second three-game winning streak of the season on Tuesday after previously going 3-0 from Oct. 9-13.

Buffalo visited the Kings last week, dropping a 2-0 decision Thursday night at the Staples Center. Jonathan Quick recorded the 26th shutout of his career for Los Angeles, while Mike Richards and Anze Kopitar supplied the goals.

Despite that setback, the Sabres still have six wins in the last nine games of this series. Buffalo also has claimed four straight on home ice against the Kings and is 10-1-0 with a tie over the past 12 meetings in Western New York.

Buffalo, however, has lost two straight and six of its last seven games and is last in the NHL with just seven points on the season. After dropping the 2-0 decision Thursday in L.A., the Sabres were dealt a 6-2 loss the following night in Anaheim. Ryan Getzlaf recorded his first career hat trick to lead the Ducks to the rout over the visiting Sabres.

Mikhail Grigorenko tallied both goals for Buffalo, which trailed the Ducks by a 4-1 score after one period. Ryan Miller allowed six goals on 34 shots and was replaced by Jonas Enroth at the start of the third period.

"That's the way you feel after these kinds of games. You start to give a team an advantage, a team that just beat us in our building by six goals. You give them an offensive advantage right off the start. It's not the way to go," said Miller.

After going 1-2-0 on its recent three-game swing, Buffalo will aim for its first home win of the season on Tuesday. The Sabres are 0-8-1 as the host so far and they'll play two straight and six of their next eight games on home ice.

The Kings, meanwhile, are 4-3-0 on the road and are kicking off a four-game road trip tonight. L.A. also is set to play all three New York-area teams during the swing and will continue the swing with Thursday's meeting against the Islanders.

Los Angeles closed its recent homestand in impressive fashion, slamming the Canucks by a 5-1 score on Saturday. Tyler Toffoli notched two goals and an assist to lead the Kings to the rout over Vancouver.

Mike Richards had a goal and two assists, while Justin Williams and Jordan Nolan accounted for the other two tallies. Quick turned aside 25-of-26 shots for Los Angeles in the win.

"We were solid. We had a really good start. We were playing against a team that has been playing very well, but we were able to get up a couple [of goals] and keep the lead," said Los Angeles head coach Darryl Sutter.

Kings forwards Kyle Clifford (undisclosed) and Jarret Stoll (upper body) are questionable for Tuesday's game. Stoll has sat out the last two games, while Clifford was hurt in Saturday's win against the Canucks.

Sabres defenseman Christian Ehrhoff is questionable for Tuesday after sitting out Friday's game in Anaheim with a lower-body injury.

Quick is expected to get the start in net and is 3-0-0 with a 1.78 goals against average in four career outings against the Sabres. Miller is 4-1-1 with a 2.38 GAA in seven lifetime appearances versus L.A.
