Kings try to end slide in Dallas

Dec 31, 2013 - 4:19 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The Los Angeles Kings will try to snap their longest losing streak of the season on Tuesday night as they continue their road trip against the Dallas Stars.

The Kings have lost three in a row -- all in regulation -- and were defeated 1-0 by the Chicago Blackhawks on Monday night. Los Angeles logged 26 shots on net, but all were stopped by Chicago's Antti Raanta in his first career shutout.

Fellow rookie goaltender Martin Jones made 29 saves for the Kings, who have lost the first two of their four-game road trip that ends on Thursday in St. Louis.

"We believe we're a top team in this league. We know we can play with these guys and beat them, it just didn't work out for us tonight," said Jones, who has not lost back-to-back games since opening his NHL career with a record- tying eight straight wins.

Jones is 8-2-0 with three shutouts, a 1.28 goals against average and .955 save percentage in 10 starts, with his career-opening win streak halted on Dec. 23 in a 5-2 loss to the Stars. He gave up four goals on 23 shots, the only time in his 10 outings that he has allowed more than two goals.

It is unknown if Jones will face the Stars tonight or if Los Angeles will go with Ben Scrivens, who has never faced the franchise.

Jaime Benn has a goal and two assists for Dallas in the recent victory over Los Angeles, the first of three straight games with a goal for the forward.

Benn and Ryan Garbutt scored 3:18 apart in the second period on Sunday versus St. Louis to tie the game, but the Blues took a 3-2 victory in overtime.

Kari Lehtonen allowed all three goals on 22 shots to absorb the loss.

"We had our opportunity in overtime but didn't get it done," said Dallas head coach Lindy Ruff.

The Stars, who tonight play the third contest of a five-game homestand, had a two-game win streak snapped but did improve to 4-0-2 in their last six.

Lehtonen made 30 saves in the Dec. 23 victory over the Kings, improving to 9-7-1 with a 2.58 GAA in 18 career starts against them.

The Stars and Kings have split two meetings this season -- both in L.A. -- and Los Angeles has won four of its last six in Dallas.
