Wild hand Ducks rare home loss
Jan 29, 2014 - 6:23 AM Anaheim, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Zach Parise had a goal and two assists to help the Minnesota Wild take a 4-2 win over the Anaheim Ducks on Tuesday.Jason Pominville and Mikael Granlund each posted a goal and an assist while Erik Haula also scored for the Wild, who have won four of their last six games. Darcy Kuemper made 31 saves in the win.
"I think we were good in almost every area of our game," said Pominville. "Our power play got one but I thought we generated some good opportunities off it. Our PK was good, our goalie was good, our 5-on-5 was good. I think overall we did a lot of good things tonight."
Dustin Penner and Mathieu Perreault both scored for the Ducks, who lost just their second game in regulation on home ice this season. Jonas Hiller gave up all four goals on 33 shots in the loss.
"I don't know what you call it but it wasn't very good," said Anaheim head coach Bruce Boudreau. "You can't call it a letdown because Minnesota is a good team, so I don't know what it was tonight."
Minnesota scored at 7:57 of the first period as Granlund's shot from the high slot hit off a Duck in front and went behind the net, where Pominville picked it up and whipped it in off the back of Hiller.
The Ducks, though, tied the game at 18:13 of the first as Ryan Getzlaf sent a pass from the low left side to the top of the circle where Penner's one-timer blew past the glove of Kuemper.
The Wild took a 2-1 lead just 13 seconds into the second period on the power play as Parise sent a soft pass from the left wing to the front of the net where Granlund tapped it in for his fourth of the season.
Kuemper turned aside all four shots he faced in the second period to keep the lead, and the Wild added to their advantage in the third.
The first goal came at 6:35 as a left circle faceoff win saw Marco Scandella blast a shot from the left point that Parise redirected in for his 16th of the season.
Less than two minutes later, the Wild made it a 4-1 game as another shot from the left point, this one from Pominville, was redirected in by Haula for his second of the season.
Anaheim got one back 2 1/2 minutes later on the power play as a quick pass from the left circle by Teemu Selanne to the right side was swept in by Perreault.
Kuemper made a point-blank stop on Getzlaf with just under three minutes to play to keep it a two-goal game.
