Cajanek ends Blues' four-game road losing streak

Oct 22, 2006 - 3:57 AM CHICAGO (Ticker) -- Petr Cajanek made sure St. Louis no longer had to sing the blues.

Cajanek scored the go-ahead goal early in the third period as the St. Louis Blues snapped a four-game road losing streak with a 4-3 victory over the Chicago Blackhawks.

Lee Stempniak tallied twice for the Blues, who also defeated the Blackhawks, 4-3, a week ago before suffering a 3-2 overtime loss to Vancouver on Friday when defenseman Sami Salo found the net from the point just as time expired in the extra session.

"I just have to give our guys credit that after a tough loss last night, to come back from a 2-0 score shows our effort was good," St. Louis coach Mike Kitchen said. "The guys worked hard."

Meanwhile, Chicago fell, 5-4, to Dallas on Friday after surrendering four tallies in the final period and suffered another tough loss in this one.

Three minutes into the third period, Cajanek snapped a 3-3 tie with his second goal of the season, a wrist shot halfway up the right post. Goaltender Curtis Sanford did the rest, making 24 saves for St. Louis.

"We know (Nikolai) Khabibulin gives up a lot of rebounds so we tried to shoot a lot," Cajanek said. "The last few games we have come back from being down, so we always feel that this team has something in us to do that."

Khabibulin had 25 stops for the Blackhawks, who squandered an early two-goal lead.

"Welcome to the new NHL," Chicago coach Trent Yawney said. "It (losing leads) happens to everyone. At times we need to dig deeper and play with a little more discipline."
