Jets snap skid with win over Avs

Feb 9, 2015 - 3:16 AM Winnipeg, MB (SportsNetwork.com) - Dustin Byfuglien and Mathieu Perreault each posted a goal and two assists to lead the Winnipeg Jets in a 5-3 victory over the Colorado Avalanche.

Bryan Little had a goal and an assist while Jacob Trouba and Ben Chiarot also scored for the Jets, who snapped a six-game losing streak. Ondrej Pavelec stopped 25 shots in the win.

"The last three (games) we're comfortable with what we look like, and that's where you want to be at this time of year," said Winnipeg head coach Paul Maurice. "We're not winning every game down the stretch, but you want to look when you leave the ice knowing you did what you're supposed to do."

Alex Tanguay and Matt Duchene each had a goal and an assist and Tyson Barrie also scored for the Avalanche, who have lost their past three. Semyon Varlamov allowed all five goals on 29 shots.

The only goal of the first period went to Colorado, as Barrie's wrister from the slot found the back of the net with 9:03 left in the frame.

Winnipeg, though, tied the game 2:04 into the second period as Perreault shot the puck home from the right side for his 18th of the season.

Less than four minutes later, the Jets made it a 2-1 game on the power play as Little's one-timer from the left circle saw Byfuglien clean up the rebound in front.

It was 3-1 in Winnipeg's favor at 13:24 as Chiarot finished off a rush play with a rebound shot from the left wing for his second career goal.

Skating 5-on-3, the Jets took a 4-1 lead as Little finished it off with a wrister from the left circle.

"They got four quick ones on us and I thought we were playing a good hockey game at that point," said Barrie. "But, you know, they got those goals and things got out of hand pretty quickly."

Colorado cut the deficit to 4-2 at 7:07 when Duchene redirected a pass from Jarome Iginla, but the Jets got the goal back four minutes later after Trouba finished off a rebound.

Tanguay scored with 2:20 to play to get the Avs back within two, but they were unable to get any closer.
