Blue Jackets end skid with win over Devils
Mar 7, 2015 - 4:28 AM Newark, NJ (SportsNetwork.com) - Marko Dano scored the eventual game-winning goal before the midway point of regulation, as the Columbus Blue Jackets ended a seven-game skid with a 3-2 win over the New Jersey Devils on Friday.Justin Falk and Brandon Dubinsky each tallied a goal and an assist and Sergei Bobrovsky made 21 saves for the Blue Jackets, who won their first game since a 2-1 decision at Pittsburgh on Feb. 19.
"I really liked our first period," Columbus head coach Todd Richards said. "It feels good winning and doing some things throughout the game right."
Jordin Tootoo and Peter Harrold each lit the lamp, while Cory Schneider allowed all three goals on 24 shots as New Jersey's two game win streak came to an end.
"We made some mistakes and I wasn't able to come up with that one extra save," said Schneider.
Midway through the second period, Dano put Columbus up 3-1 after stepping up into the right circle and wristing a quick shot that went into the net under the crossbar and quickly popped out of the net.
In the third, Harrold skated up the right side, deked past a defender and flipped a shot over Bobrovsky's glove to get the Devils within 3-2 at 6:36.
The Devils nearly tied it moments later as Adam Larsson's point shot rang off the right post and slid through the crease, but never crossed the goal line.
New Jersey pulled Schneider with under a minute to play, but was unable to force overtime.
Columbus opened the scoring 6:41 into the game as Falk's rising shot from the left point went past an unsuspecting Schneider.
While skating 4-on-4, Dubinsky raced up on the rush and wristed a shot from the right circle that went under the arm of Schneider and into the net at 2:24 of the second.
Just over three minutes later, Tootoo wristed a shot through Bobrovsky's legs for a power-play goal and a 2-1 game.
