Sundin looking for goal No. 390 with Maple Leafs

TORONTO (Ticker) -- All eyes will be on Toronto Maple Leafs captain Mats Sundin when the Carolina Hurricanes visit the Air Canada Centre on Tuesday.

Sundin is one goal away from moving into sole possession of first place on the franchise list. The captain scored his 389th goal as a Maple Leaf against the Ottawa Senators on Thursday, tying him with Hall of Famer Darryl Sittler for the top spot.

Sundin's next goal also will be the 525th of his career, which will break a 28th-place tie with Bryan Trottier on the NHL's all-time list. Not surprisingly, the 17-year veteran is just one point away from tying Sittler's franchise record for career points (916).

The leading Swedish-born scorer in NHL history with 1,246 points, Sundin is used to having his name etched in the Toronto record book. The 36-year-old ranks first in Maple Leafs history in game-winning goals, is third in assists and seventh in games played.

Sundin has a point in all three contests this season, accumulating a goal and five assists. He registered three assists in Saturday's 4-3 setback to the rival Montreal Canadiens.

In order to etch his name into the franchise record book again, Sundin will have to put the puck past Carolina netminder Cam Ward, who sat out Saturday's 2-0 loss to the Washington Capitals.

The 23-year-old Ward is 1-0-1 with a 1.98 goals-against average and .946 save percentage on the young season.
