Sabres look to extend winning streak

BUFFALO, New York (Ticker) -- After a slow start, the Buffalo Sabres have started to show why they were the NHL's best offense last season.

The Sabres look to complete an undefeated four-game home stand on Friday when they host the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Buffalo scored six goals while losing both ends of a home-and-home series with the New York Islanders to start the season, but has tallied 18 goals over the last three games to recapture the scoring touch of a year ago, when the squad led the league with 308 goals.

One big key to the offensive resurgence has been the Sabres' power play. Buffalo is 6-for-21 with the man advantage during this winning streak, after going 1-for-11 in the two losses to the Islanders.

However, defenseman Jaroslav Spacek, who leads the team with two power-play goals, will likely miss the next two games with a sprained shoulder sustained on Monday.

As much success as the Sabres have enjoyed on the offensive end lately, it has been a different story for the Blue Jackets on the road. Columbus has dropped both of its road games so far and been outscored 8-3.

Columbus left wing Fredrik Modin, who finished second on the team in 2006 with 22 goals, is day-to-day with a groin injury.
