Bruins aim for fifth straight win vs. Canadiens

Oct 22, 2007 - 1:48 PM Boston (5-2-0) at Montreal (3-2-2) 7:30 pm EDT

MONTREAL (Ticker) -- The Boston Bruins are pretty hot, but they will get a stern test against their old rival, the Montreal Canadiens.

The Bruins aim for their fifth straight win when they visit the Canadiens on Monday.

Backup goaltender Manny Fernandez stopped 26 shots and Phil Kessel scored the lone goal in Saturday's shootout win over the New York Rangers.

Part of the reason the Bruins have been so hot is their suffocating defense. The team's No. 1 netminder Tim Thomas leads the league with a 1.26 goals-against average and Boston has allowed two goals or less in all but two games this season.

Still, their impressive streak will be put to the test against the Canadiens. The Bruins have lost three straight to them and 12 of the last 16 meetings.

Meanwhile, Montreal snapped a three-game skid on Saturday with a 4-2 win over Buffalo. The Canadiens caught a break in the game as the go-ahead goal went in off Sabres' defenseman Toni Lydman.

Montreal had scored just five goals in three games prior to that four-goal performance.

While the Bruins boast the league's top goaltender thus far, Canadiens netminder Cristobal Huet has been stellar as well. Huet stopped 25 shots in Saturday's win and has a 2.14 GAA in five starts this season. He is also 5-2 with a 2.04 GAA in eight career starts against Boston.
