Senators go for sixth straight win

Nov 3, 2007 - 1:53 PM Boston (7-4-0) at Ottawa (10-1-0) 7:30 pm EDT

OTTAWA (Ticker) - The red-hot Ottawa Senators will try to extend their winning streak to six games on Saturday when they host the Boston Bruins.

The Senators, who are first in the Eastern Conference, have been absolutely dominate thus far. After opening the campaign with five straight wins, Ottawa suffered its only setback this year on October 11, losing 5-3 to the Carolina Hurricanes.

Since that loss, the Senators have won every game but one by at least two goals - including a 6-4 win against the Atlanta Thrashers in their last contest on Thursday.

Ottawa led, 5-0, entering the third period and almost blew the game before Daniel Alfredsson sealed the victory with his second goal of the game and his 300th career tally.

Alfredsson, who has a team-high nine goals and nine assists this season, is well on his way to his sixth consecutive 25-goal season. The 34-year-old captain scored 29 goals last season while leading the Senators with 58 assists.

Senators center Jason Spezza has been bothered by a groin injury recently, but he's likely feeling better after signing a seven-year contract extension worth $49 million on Friday.

This will be the second straight Northeast Division clash for the Bruins, who knocked off Buffalo, 4-3, on Thursday.

Boston will take the ice without the services of Patrice Bergeron, who will miss at least the next month with a Grade 3 concussion. The center was shoved head-first into endboards by defenseman Randy Jones during a 2-1 win against the Philadelphia Flyers on October 27.
