Canucks trying to end Avalanche's home win streak
Nov 3, 2007 - 2:26 PM Vancouver (5-8-0) at Colorado (8-4-0) 10:00 pm EDTDENVER (Ticker) -- On Saturday, the Vancouver Canucks will try to accomplish a feat that no other team in the NHL has been able to do during the 2007-08 season.
After a subpar first month, the Canucks take on the Colorado Avalanche on Saturday hoping to get back on track.
Winning will not be easy, however, as the Avalanche are undefeated in their first six home games this season. The six-game winning streak is tied for the franchise record set during the 1994-95 season while the team was still located in Quebec.
Colorado joins Philadelphia as the only other unbeaten team at home this season.
Vancouver struggled during the first month of NHL action, managing just one win at home and five in total. The Canucks enter Saturday's game having lost back-to-back games, including a 3-0 setback to the Nashville Predators on Thursday.
While the offense has not helped the Canucks' cause, ranking 23rd in the league in goals scored, it has been the play of goaltender Roberto Luongo that has really hurt.
Luongo faced just 15 shots against the Predators on Thursday, but managed to give up three goals. The 28-year-old netminder has posted just a 4-8-0 record this season with a 2.92 goals-against average and a .898 save percentage.
While the Canucks can't seem to win, the Avalanche are having trouble losing.
Colorado extended its overall winning streak to four games on Thursday, overcoming two goals by reigning MVP Sydney Crosby with three tallies of its own in the second period to rally for the 3-2 triumph.
