Blues meet Red Wings in division battle

Oct 28, 2006 - 3:56 PM Detroit (5-4-1) at St Louis (3-3-2) 8:00 pm EDT

ST. LOUIS (Ticker) -- With their baseball counterparts just completing the World Series, the St. Louis Blues will face off against the Detroit Red Wings in a Central Division matchup on Saturday.

Having not played a game in a week, the Blues are glad to be back in familiar surroundings as they play five of their next six games at home. St. Louis has scored five power-play goals in 25 chances and killed 25-of-28 penalties en route to a 2-1-1 record here this season.

Keith Tkachuk is on a five-game assist streak for the Blues, who are looking to win back-to-back games after collecting a 4-3 win against the Chicago Blackhawks on October 21. Lee Stempniak scored twice and assisted on Petr Cajanek's tie-breaking goal in the third period.

Cajanek has registered five points over his last four games, while Stempniak has four in his last two.

Red Wings' defenseman Nicklas Lidstrom scored two goals in Friday's 4-3 win over Dallas, handing the Stars their first home loss. Detroit has won two consecutive contests after dropping three in a row.

Detroit dominated St. Louis last season, winning seven of eight meetings, including an impressive 4-0-0 showing at home.
