Holmstrom, Red Wings continue success against Blues

Oct 29, 2006 - 1:55 AM ST. LOUIS (Ticker) -- Tomas Holmstrom helped the Detroit Red Wings continue their dominance against the St. Louis Blues.

Holmstrom scored two goals and Valtteri Filppula tallied once as the Red Wings posted a 3-2 victory over the Blues in a Central Division matchup.

Detroit dominated St. Louis last season, winning seven of eight meetings, including an impressive 4-0-0 showing at home. The Red Wings scored twice early in the first period to set the tone in this game.

Holmstrom tallied his 300th career point at the 4:33 mark of the opening session to start the scoring. He added another goal at the 6:34 mark in the third period to make it 3-1.

Filppula scored his first goal of the season at the 6:32 mark of the first session to give Detroit a 2-0 advantage.

Goaltender Chris Osgood made 28 saves for the Red Wings, who won their third straight contest.

Bill Guerin tallied in the second period to make it 2-1 and Radek Dvorak added an unassisted third-period goal to make it 3-2. Netminder Manny Legace made 22 saves for the Blues.
