Avalanche meet Wild in Northwest showdown

DENVER (Ticker) -- The top two teams in the Northwest Division meet on Sunday when the Colorado Avalanche take on the Minnesota Wild.

The Avalanche, who are six points behind the Detroit Red Wings in second place in the Western Conference, had a two-game win streak snapped on Friday, suffering a 2-1 overtime loss to the Vancouver Canucks.

Jose Theodore made 26 saves in net for Colorado, just his first overtime loss of the season, and third overall.

Theodore is 4-2-1 with a 2.23 goals-against average and a .920 save percentage this season and has kept the pressure on the up-and-coming Peter Budaj for the starting job.

However, the 25-year-old Budaj has been solid in net, posting a 6-3-0 record with a 2.95 GAA and .894 save percentage.

The Wild enter the contest in fourth place in the Western conference and are well rested, having not played a game since a 5-2 victory over the Edmonton Oilers on Monday - their second consecutive win. Minnesota scored four of their five goals on the powerplay - including two by Mark Parrish.

Parrish has been a force on the offensive end of the ice this season, logging six tallies in 15 games. However, the 30-year-old right wing is without an assist this campaign after notching 20 last season.
