Brind'Amour, Hurricanes set to battle Panthers

SUNRISE, Florida (Ticker) - No matter how old he gets, Rod Brind'Amour is still one of the most productive players in the NHL.

The 35-year-old center will look to continue his red-hot start when the Carolina Panthers visit the Southeast Division-rival Florida Panthers on Monday.

Brind'Amour leads the club with 15 assists and 23 points on the season. He scored two goals Saturday in the Hurricanes' 5-3 win over the Atlanta Thrashers.

A first round pick (ninth overall) in 1998 out of Michigan, Brind'Amour has a point in each of Carolina's 10 wins this season. He has enjoyed some of success against Florida in his career, tallying 24 goals and 53 points in 69 contests.

The Panthers will turn to netminder Tomas Vokoun to shut down Brind'Amour and the rest of the Hurricanes' talented offense. Vokoun has been inconsistent in his first season with Florida, going 7-8-0 with a 3.06 goals-against average.

As usual, the Panthers' offense is led by Olli Jokinen. The Finnish center, who is Florida's all-time leader in points, leads the club with nine goals and 10 assists.

Carolina, which leads the division by six points, will hope Eric Stahl can build off his team-leading 12 tallies.
