Penguins look to snap four-game losing streak

PITTSBURGH (Ticker) - The Pittsburgh Penguins try to snap their four-game losing streak on Thursday when they host the New York Islanders.

The Penguins have been outscored 18-9 during the slide, including a 3-2 loss to the New Jersey Devils in their last game Monday. Sidney Crosby scored a goal and assisted on the other during the setback.

Despite Pittsburgh's losing streak, Crosby has lived up to the expectations that an MVP award warrants. The 20-year-old center has a team-high 10 goals and 17 assists this season and is tied with Henrik Zetterberg of the Detroit Red Wings for the NHL lead in points.

The Islanders suffered a 3-2 loss to the Philadelphia Flyers in their last game on Monday, ending a four-game win streak. Mike Sillinger and Chris Simon scored the goals for New York in the loss - just its second in eight games.

Sillinger, who scored 26 goals and 33 assists in his first campaign with the Islanders last season, has two tallies and four assists on the season while Simon notched his first point of 2007-08 with the goal on Monday.

The Islanders have won the last three meetings between the two teams, including a 3-2 victory on November 3.

Before the game, Pittsburgh will induct Paul Coffey into the Penguins Hall of Fame. Coffey was an All-Star in each of his five seasons in Pittsburgh from 1987-92, and is the only Penguins' defenseman to rank in the club's all-time top 10 in points and assists.
