Wesley to play in 1,400th career game vs. Panthers

RALEIGH, North Carolina (Ticker) - Defenseman Glen Wesley would like his 1,400th career game to be a memorable one.

Wesley will try to help the Carolina Hurricanes avoid a three-game losing streak when they host the Florida Panthers on Saturday in a matchup of Southeast Division foes.

The 20-year veteran, who was selected third overall in the 1987 NHL Draft by the Boston Bruins, has been held off the scoresheet this season, but has helped the division-leading Hurricanes with a plus-six.

Wesley, who re-signed this offseason, has spent 13 seasons with Carolina franchise and has tallied 127 career goals - including 14 game winners. He has also notched 529 points and 1005 penalty minutes during his career.

The Hurricanes have uncharacteristically struggled on offense recently. Despite scoring a league-leading 69 goals this season, Carolina has been outscored, 9-1, in its previous two contests.

The Hurricanes were shutout for the second time this season - first at home - when Johan Hedberg and the Atlanta Thrashers blanked them, 3-0, on Friday.

The Panthers, on the other hand, have struggled for most of the season. They have lost five of their last seven games, which includes two setbacks to the Hurricanes.

As usual, center Olli Jokinen leads Florida in most offensive categories, including goals (9) and assists (11). Jokinen, however, has not scored a goal in the last five games.
