Rangers look to contain Lecavalier, Lightning

TAMPA, Florida (Ticker) - The New York Rangers have to like their chances if they are not playing the rival New York Islanders.

The Rangers will look for their ninth win in 11 games when they visit the Tampa Bay Lightning on Wednesday.

The only losses for the Rangers over that span have come against the Islanders, including a 2-1 setback Monday night.

Defenseman Michal Rozsival scored the lone Rangers' goal in that contest, while the club was a man down. Rozsival has three goals - two shorthanded - in the previous two games as the Rangers' defensemen have tallied the squad's last five goals.

Rozsival is tied with Brendan Shanahan for the club lead in goals with six, while captain Jaromir Jagr has a team-leading 13 assists and 17 points on the season.

The Lightning are starting to make a run in the Southeast Division behind reigning Maurice Richard Trophy winner Vincent Lecavalier, who has eight consecutive multiple-point performances. It is the longest such streak in the NHL since Jagr accomplished the feat from February 18-March 9, 1996.

Lecavalier has 14 goals and a league-leading 34 points this season. He has lined with Brad Richards and Martin St. Louis to become the NHL's most successful trio, combining for 83 points.
