Lindros scores twice, gets into fight as Stars roll

Nov 2, 2006 - 4:15 AM DALLAS (Ticker) -- Eric Lindros turned back the clock. Then he practically rewound the thing.

Lindros scored a pair of goals before capping his performance with a very rare fight as the Dallas Stars continued their sizzling start to the season with a 4-1 victory over the St. Louis Blues.

Mike Modano netted his 493rd career tally and Jussi Jokinen also scored as Dallas (10-2-0) won for the fifth time in six games.

"I think we played a good game," Jokinen said. "Our whole team played well and our whole team was a lot better tonight than the last three games. It's good to get two points before going on a road trip."

The best player on the ice was Lindros, who recorded his first multi-goal game as a member of the Stars. The six-time All-Star tallied on a deflection midway through the first period and capped the scoring with a bizarre goal late in the final session when Brenden Morrow's centering pass ricocheted off his stick as he was streaking toward the net.

"Sooner or later, they were going to go in," said Lindros, who entered with just one goal in 11 games. "Over the course, there's been some ugly ones, some pretty ones, but sooner or later, things start to happen."

Lindros, who has had his offensive production and especially his aggressive nature derailed by concussions over the years, decided to tangle with Dan Hinote with 3:16 remaining. The two heavyweights grasped each other for several seconds before Lindros connected with a couple of punches.

"I'm not here to fight," Lindros said. "I'll defend myself, but I'm not here to fight."

Marty Turco turned aside 23 shots and Mike Ribeiro collected a pair of assists for Dallas, which has won seven straight home meetings with St. Louis.

Turco's biggest sequence came midway through the second period, when he had to make a blocker save on Dallas Drake's breakaway with the Stars on a two-man advantage. He held his ground seconds later when St. Louis came at him with a 2-on-1 rush.

"That was huge for us," Turco said. "We wanted to play a real consistent game."

Keith Tkachuk scored on a deflection 76 seconds into the contest and Curtis Sanford made 27 saves, but the Blues still lost for the sixth time in seven games.

"We had a great start there," St. Louis defenseman Bryce Salvador said. "We played well, we stuck in there. With a team like Dallas, a turnover here and there, they've got the skill and speed to capitalize on it and we were behind."

"You can't sit on a one-goal lead," Sanford said. "They showed that. They got up by one, but they kept pushing."
