Luongo, Sedin keep Canucks rolling at home

Dec 31, 2007 - 4:54 AM VANCOUVER, British Columbia (Ticker) -- For Roberto Luongo and Henrik Sedin, there really is no place like home.

Luongo made 21 saves and Sedin had two assists as the Vancouver Canucks extended their winning streak at General Motors Place to four games Sunday with a 2-1 triumph over the Anaheim Ducks.

Daniel Sedin and Matt Cooke both scored for the Canucks, who are 10-0-2 over their past 12 home games.

The 28-year-old Luongo has been a major factor in Vancouver's recent success at GM Place. He started all 12 of those contests, allowing just 11 goals with five shutouts.

"Every game is important and obviously this team eliminated us from the playoffs last year," Luongo said. "They were shooting from everywhere. I mean, they aren't the Stanley Cup champions for nothing."

Luongo was impressive once again, stopping six shots in the first period, five in the next and 10 more in the third en route to his ninth win in his last 12 starts.

Ryan Getzlaf ended Luongo's bid for his sixth shutout of the season and 38th career with his 14th goal at 9:43 of the final session. Getzlaf blasted a one-timer off a perfect pass from defenseman Scott Niedermayer past Luongo to cut the deficit to 2-1.

"It's always nice to get on the (scoreboard) when you're one of the top lines," Getzlaf said. "We're expected to score goals and, if we're not, then we're not doing our job right. "Luongo's one of the best goalies in the league for a reason. He gives them a chance to win every night. We've just go to find a way to get pucks past him."

Vancouver took a 1-0 lead midway through the opening session when Daniel Sedin notched his 17th tally of the season. After taking a pass from captain Markus Naslund to the left of the net, Henrik Sedin made a nice centering feed to his brother at the edge of the crease.

With Henrik drawing the defense towards him, Daniel Sedin unleashed a uncontested shot past Ducks rookie netminder Jonas Hiller with 9:32 left in the period.

"The first one was a 5-on-3 so there wasn't too much about that," Henrik Sedin said on the game's opening goal. "That was an easy play."

Matt Cooke doubled the Canucks' advantage at 4:18 of the second when Henrik Sedin led him with a pass streaking down the left wing. Cooke fluttered a seemingly harmless shot from the left faceoff circle that caught Hiller off-guard and slipped under his arm.

In 19 games at home this season, Henrik Sedin has five goals and 24 points.

"We didn't start off really well (at home) but we are now playing like a team," Henrik Sedin said. "We play like we do on the road. This is the way we've got to play and score on the chances we get."

Hiller, making just his ninth career appearance, turned aside 20 of the 22 shots he faced.
