Sabres look for fourth straight win over Canadiens

Feb 29, 2008 - 11:15 AM Montreal (34-21-9) at Buffalo (31-24-9) 7:30 pm EST

BUFFALO, New York (Ticker) - The Buffalo Sabres will like nothing more than to continue their recent success against the Montreal Canadiens on Friday.

The Sabres, who are six points behind the second-place Canadiens in the Northeast Division, dropped the first two contests of the eight-game season series with Montreal but have rebounded to win the last three.

The Canadiens are currently in fifth place in the Eastern Conference playoff race. Buffalo is battling the New York Rangers, the Boston Bruins and the Philadelphia Flyers for the last three postseason berths.

The Sabres are 6-3-1 in their last 10 games and are coming off an 8-4 rout of Nashville on Wednesday. Steve Bernier had two goals and an assist for Buffalo in his first game since being acquired from San Jose on Tuesday.

Montreal's 5-1 home win over Atlanta snapped a two-game losing streak. The Canadiens are 19-9-4 on the road.

Defenseman Roman Hamrlik, Bryan Smolinski and Christopher Higgins each have three goals against Buffalo this season. Thomas Vanek and Derek Roy have combined for four goals and five assists against Montreal.

With the trade of goaltender Cristobal Huet to Washington for a 2009 draft pick, 20-year-old rookie Carey Price has become the No. 1 netminder for the Canadiens.
