Red-hot Bruins face Capitals looking to extend streak
Mar 3, 2008 - 3:49 PM Boston (35-23-6) at Washington (30-28-8) 7:00 pm ESTWASHINGTON (Ticker) -- The Boston Bruins look to continue their winning ways on Monday when they face the Washington Capitals.
The Bruins, who are 7-0-1 in their last eight games, have moved into a sixth-place tie with the New York Rangers in the Eastern Conference playoff race.
"I think everybody's in a playoff mode now," Boston coach Claude Julien said. "Every team that's in the race is thinking that way. And there doesn't seem to be many teams packing it in."
Monday's game will be the first of three meetings between the teams in the next two weeks. In the clubs' only other meeting this season, All-Star goaltender Tim Thomas stopped 31 shots as the Bruins skated to a 2-0 victory on January 3.
Boston, which is 18-11-3 on the road, has not lost in regulation since a 3-2 home loss to Carolina on February 12.
Washington is coming off a 3-2 home loss to Toronto on Saturday that snapped a two-game winning streak. Left wing Matt Cooke made his debut for the Capitals after being picked up from Vancouver in a trade for left wing Matt Pettinger.
The Capitals are currently second behind the Hurricanes in the Southeast Division, but are in a tie for 11th place in the East.
