Final - 2OT
Bruins look to contain Ovechkin, Capitals
Mar 16, 2008 - 1:00 PM Boston (37-27-8) at Washington (34-30-8) 3:00 pm EDTWASHINGTON (Ticker) -- After being outclassed in the last meeting, All-Star goaltender Tim Thomas and the Boston Bruins aim to do a better job of slowing Russian superstar Alex Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals on Sunday.
Boston is looking to redeem itself after suffering a 10-2 embarrassing loss in Washington on March 3.
Ovechkin recorded a hat trick and two assists as the Capitals scored six first-period goals en route to their most lopsided win of the season.
The 22-year-old Ovechkin leads the league with 57 goals, and is three shy of becoming the first player to score 60 in a season since Mario Lemieux and Jaromir Jagr in 1995-96.
Ovechkin had a goal and an assist in a 4-1 win over Atlanta on Friday.
Winners of six of their last nine (6-3-0), the Capitals trail Southeast Division-leader Carolina (38-30-5) by five points. Washington is also four points behind eighth-place Philadelphia (35-27-10) in the Eastern Conference.
Meanwhile, the Bruins snapped a three-game skid with a 3-2 overtime win over the Flyers are Saturday. After defenseman Andrew Ference tied the game with just 27 seconds left in regulation, fellow blue-liner Aaron Ward scored 2:17 into the extra session to seal the win.
The Bruins are currently in seventh place in the East, two points ahead of Philadelphia and three points up on Buffalo (34-28-11).
- goCapsRavens I was there, great game. So many people were standing up at the end that the only way of knowing they won the shootout was when the crowd went crazy.
