Predators hope to end home woes

NASHVILLE, Tennessee (Ticker) - In the midst of one of their worst slides in franchise history, the Nashville Predators have to deal with the Detroit Red Wings.

The Predators aim to snap a five-game home skid on Thursday when they host the Red Wings, who lead the NHL with 102 points.

Nashville, which has qualified for the playoffs each of the last three seasons, currently sits ninth in the Western Conference standings, four points behind Vancouver, Calgary and Colorado - all with 84 points.

J.P. Dumont and Jason Arnott each scored in Tuesday's 4-2 loss to the Washington Capitals, but the Predators were done in by the poor play of goaltender Dan Ellis, who surrendered three goals on the first eight shots he faced before he was pulled for Chris Mason.

With a loss Thursday, Nashville would match a franchise record for consecutive home defeats.

With their recent home struggles, the Predators cannot be happy about meeting Detroit, which owns one of the best road records in the league at 22-11-4.

In their most recent game on Wednesday, the Red Wings held serve on their end of a home-and-home with the Columbus Blue Jackets, winning 3-1, after a 4-3 loss at Columbus on Sunday.

Henrik Zetterberg broke a season-high seven-game goalless drought with a natural hat trick - his third career three-goal game.
