Canucks look to slow down surging Oilers

EDMONTON, Alberta (Ticker) - The Vancouver Canucks hope to solidify their playoff position and slow down the Edmonton Oilers' push to the postseason when the Northwest Division rivals clash on Thursday.

Vancouver is in a three-way tie with Calgary (37-26-10) and Colorado (39-29-6) for sixth place in the Western Conference, while the Oilers are five points back in 10th place.

The Canucks have won five of their past seven games, including a 3-1 victory over Phoenix on Monday.

Henrik Sedin tallied two goals and twin brother Daniel had two assists in the win. Daniel leads the team with 26 goals, but has not scored in his last 13 contests.

The streaking Oilers are threatening to make a late run into the playoffs, going 10-2-0 in their last 12 games.

Edmonton won its third straight Tuesday with a 8-4 victory over Phoenix.

Sam Gagner led six players with multi-point games with one goal and two assists and has three tallies with seven assists in his last six games.

The Canucks are 3-0-3 against the Oilers this season, winning the most recent meeting, 4-2, on February 16.
