Bruins trying to end 10-game losing streak vs. Canadiens
Mar 22, 2008 - 1:10 PM Boston (37-28-9) at Montreal (41-24-10) 7:00 pm EDTMONTREAL (Ticker) - The Boston Bruins have reached a new low in their rivalry against the Montreal Canadiens.
The Bruins look to bounce back from yet another loss to the Canadiens when the teams conclude a home-and-home series on Saturday.
Boston suffered its 10th consecutive setback against Montreal during a 4-2 loss on Thursday night, despite the return of captain Zdeno Chara, who missed the previous five games with an upper body injury.
However, not even the All-Star defenseman could stop Alexei Kovalev, who scored two highlight-reel goals and added an assist.
Montreal rookie netminder Carey Price stopped 34 shots as the Canadiens completed their longest winning streak against the Bruins since World War II.
In the last 26 meetings between the clubs, including the playoffs, Boston is just 4-22-0.
With Thursday's win, Montreal (41-24-10) took control of the top spot in the Eastern Conference, forging a slim one-point lead over the New Jersey Devils (42-25-7).
The Canadiens lead the Northeast Division by three points over the Ottawa Senators.
Boston (37-28-9), meanwhile, is 2-5-3 in its last 10 games and is just one point ahead of the Washington Capitals (37-31-8) for the eighth and final playoff spot in the East.
