Surging Panthers aim to continue run against Lightning

TAMPA, Florida (Ticker) - The Florida Panthers are hoping their late-season surge isn't coming too late.

The Panthers try to continue their incredible run in March as they attempt to sweep a home-and-home series against the Tampa Bay Lightning on Tuesday.

Florida has rolled to an 8-0-1 record to start March and has moved within three points of eighth-place Boston in the Eastern Conference playoff chase.

The Panthers need not look any further than goaltender Tomas Vokoun for their recent success.

In a 4-2 win on the front end of a home-and-home series with the Lightning on Saturday, Vokoun turned away 35 shots to record his 30th win of the season, joining Roberto Luongo as the only Panthers' goaltenders to reach the plateau.

Vokoun is 5-0-1 with a 1.63 goals-against average in his last six starts.

Florida may be in luck with another game against Tampa Bay, which resides in last place in Eastern Conference and has dropped three straight. Junior Lessard and Mathieu Darche were responsible for the lone scores against Vokoun on Saturday.
