Senators look for home-and-home sweep of Sabres

OTTAWA (Ticker) - The Ottawa Senators aim for a home-and-home sweep of the Buffalo Sabres on Thursday.

Ottawa, which lost to the Anaheim Ducks in the Stanley Cup Finals last season, is vying for home-ice advantage in the Eastern Conference.

The Senators are tied with New Jersey (42-27-2) for fourth place, and five points back of Eastern Conference-leading Montreal (43-24-10).

On Tuesday, Ottawa was clicking on all cylinders as it rallied for five third-period goals in a 6-3 win in Buffalo.

"I think it's flashes of what you saw last year," Ottawa's Dean McAmmond said. "The third period the Senators had last year where we were outskating teams, outworking teams. So I think it was a good third period for us."

The Sabres picked a bad time to let one slip away. Buffalo is tied with Florida (36-32-9), five points behind Boston (38-28-10) for the eighth and final playoff spot in the East.

"We had them where we wanted them," Buffalo's Jason Pominville said. "It's points that we're letting slip, it's points we're going to need from here on out that we're not going to have."
