Bruins hope to improve playoff position vs. Sabres
Mar 30, 2008 - 10:24 AM Boston (40-28-10) at Buffalo (36-30-12) 6:00 pm EDTBUFFALO, New York (Ticker) -- Still hoping to secure a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference, the Boston Bruins also have their sights set on moving up.
The Bruins will try to improve their playoff positioning when they visit the Buffalo Sabres on Sunday.
Following its 4-0 triumph over Ottawa on Saturday, Boston (40-28-10) maintained its hold on eighth place in the East. The Bruins remained one point behind the Philadelphia Flyers (40-28-11) and two ahead of the ninth-place Washington Capitals (40-31-8).
Boston has one game in hand on both Philadelphia and Washington.
In Saturday's impressive victory over the Senators, rookie David Krejci scored one goal and set up two others while All-Star Tim Thomas made 34 saves en route to his third shutout of the season and seventh career. Two of Thomas' three blankings this campaign have come against Ottawa.
The Bruins have outscored their opponents, 14-4, over the past three games.
Buffalo (36-30-12) also is fighting for its playoff life. The Sabres enter Sunday six points behind the Bruins with just four games remaining.
After squandering a late 3-1 lead en route to a 4-3 overtime loss to the Montreal Canadiens on Friday, the Sabres are just 1-2-1 over their last four games. Buffalo has allowed at least four goals in four of its last five contests.
The Bruins are 4-1-1 in the season series with the Sabres, although all but two of the contests has been decided by one goal, with three advancing to overtime or a shootout.
