Stars aim to continue comeback in Game Five
May 17, 2008 - 2:56 PM Dallas at Detroit 1:30 pm EDT Western Conference finals Red Wings lead, 3-1DETROIT (Ticker) -- Mike Modano once again will hope to keep the Dallas Stars alive when they visit the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday for Game Five of their Western Conference final series.
Modano snapped a tie 5:35 into the third period Wednesday as the Stars staved off elimination with a 3-1 triumph over the Red Wings in Game Four.
Captain Brenden Morrow and Loui Eriksson also tallied and defenseman Sergei Zubov had two assists for fifth-seeded Dallas, which faces a three-games-to-one deficit in its best-of-seven series.
"This isn't over. No one's told us to stop playing," said Stars center Brad Richards, a former Conn Smythe Trophy winner. "This is a fun time of year and we're going to enjoy every minute of it. We got another life (Wednesday)."
Henrik Zetterberg scored the lone goal for top-seeded Detroit, which is looking to advance to the Stanley Cup Finals for the fifth time since 1995.
"We're playing a great team. They're not going to go away," said Zetterberg, who has a league-high nine-game points streak. "We're happy we won one of two in Dallas. We just have to stay out of the (penalty) box. It was tough to get any momentum going."
"It's going to be a different game," Detroit goaltender Chris Osgood said. "We'll play better at home (and) we expect to have our best game of the season. We played good at times (on Wednesday). They had the puck in our zone way too much. It was an on-off night. We played a poor first (period), and that carried over the whole game."
Osgood finished with 19 saves but fell to 9-1 in the postseason for the Presidents' Trophy-winning Red Wings, who will once again be without Johan Franzen.
The 28-year-old Franzen, who leads the NHL with a franchise-record 12 playoff goals, will miss his fourth consecutive game with concussion-like symptoms.
The Stars are attempting to become just third team in NHL history to overcome a three-games-to-none deficit. The 1942 Toronto Maple Leafs and the 1975 New York Islanders are the only two clubs that have accomplished the feat.
Dallas goaltender Marty Turco also is hoping to reverse his fortunes at Joe Louis Arena. The product of the University of Michigan is 0-9-2 lifetime in Detroit.
After winning its first two playoff games in the Motor City as the Minnesota North Stars in 1992, the franchise has lost its last 10 postseason road contests with the Red Wings.
