Winning streaks on the line when Red Wings meet Flames

Nov 17, 2006 - 3:05 PM Detroit (12-4-1) at Calgary (8-7-2) 9:00 pm EST

CALGARY, Alberta (Ticker) - Something has to give when the Calgary Flames host the Detroit Red Wings on Friday.

The Flames come in hot, winners of five straight games, while the Red Wings are even hotter, winners of their last nine contests.

Calgary started the season slowly but has heated up lately. The Flames, who have outscored their opponents, 15-5, during their streak, extended it with a 3-0 victory over the St. Louis Blues on Tuesday.

Miikka Kiprusoff turned aside 24 shots for the shutout while Kristian Huselius, Daymond Langkow and Andrew Ference scored the goals.

The Red Wings started their three-game western trip with a 3-2 victory over the Vancouver Canucks on Tuesday. Valtteri Filppula, Henrik Zetterberg and Johan Franzen scored for Detroit.

Franzen netted the game-winner at 6:19 of the third period with a shorthanded goal while Dominik Hasek made 18 saves. A reason for Detroit's success lately has been a stingy defense. Detroit has allowed only 12 goals in its last nine games.
