Kunitz, McDonald each score twice as Ducks top Canucks
Sep 23, 2006 - 5:06 AM ANAHEIM, California (Ticker) -- After Chris Kunitz dominated the first 5 1/2 minutes of the game, Andy McDonald took over the rest of the way.Kunitz scored twice early in the first period and McDonald added two goals later in the contest as the Anaheim Ducks soared to a 5-1 preseason victory over the Vancouver Canucks.
Facing one of the top goaltenders in the league in Roberto Luongo, Kunitz beat the 2004 Vezina Trophy finalist on the game's first shot just 23 seconds in. Kunitz, who turns 27 on Tuesday, doubled Anaheim's lead at 5:30 off a feed from Teemu Selanne.
McDonald got into the act with 24 seconds left in the first period, cashing in on a 5-on-3 advantage. The 29-year-old capped the scoring with another power-play tally at 6:42 of the third.
Corey Perry also scored and McDonald added an assist for the Ducks, who went 3-for-14 with the man advantage. Selanne, Ryan Getzlaf and defensemen Scott Niedermayer and Brett Skinner each set up a pair of goals.
Michael Grabner netted the lone tally for Vancouver, which was outshot, 28-8, over the first two periods.
Luongo played just under 29 1/2 minutes, allowing three goals on 18 shots.
