Bruins put home win streak on the line vs. Red Wings
Nov 29, 2008 - 11:29 AM Detroit (15-3-4) at Boston (15-4-4) 7:00 p.m. ESTBOSTON (Ticker) -- The Boston Bruins have been nearly unbeatable at home. The Detroit Red Wings are hardly intimidated.
The Bruins go for their ninth straight win at the TD Banknorth Garden on Saturday when they host the defending Stanley Cup champion Red Wings.
After earning at least one point in its first 10 games to start November, Boston endured a 3-2 loss to the Buffalo Sabres on Wednesday to snap a four-game winning streak.
It did not take long for the Bruins to bounce back as they throttled the New York Islanders, 7-2, on Friday, improving to 8-1-1.
Boston looks to continue its strong play against the Red Wings and earn nine consecutive home victories for the first time since winning 11 straight during the 1982-83 season.
Accomplishing that feat will not be easy as Detroit owns the best road record in the NHL, posting a 10-1-2 record away from home.
After suffering an overtime loss to the Vancouver Canucks and a setback to the Montreal Canadiens, Detroit snapped its brief slide with a 5-3 victory against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Friday.
Marian Hossa scored two goals - including one that snapped a tie with exactly two minutes remaining in the third period - during the contest.
Signed to a one-year, $7.45 million contract in the offseason, Hossa leads the Red Wings with 13 goals and 26 points.
