Tkachuk hopes to reach milestone against Thrashers
Nov 30, 2008 - 8:40 AM St. Louis (9-10-2) at Atlanta (8-11-3), 3:00 pm ESTATLANTA (Ticker) -- One constant throughout the St. Louis Blues' up-and-down campaign has been the production of Keith Tkachuk. He can add to his allure against his former team.
Tkachuk needs one point to become the eighth active player and 72nd all-time with 1,000 career points and has a chance to reach that milestone when the Blues visit the Atlanta Thrashers on Sunday.
St. Louis traded the 36-year-old veteran to Atlanta in February last season for Glen Metropolit, a first-round pick in 2007, a third-round pick in 2007 and a second-round pick in 2008. However, Tkachuk re-signed with the Blues in the offseason and has enjoyed a stellar season, recording 10 goals and five assists in 21 games.
The Blues have lost two in a row after a three-game win streak. They fell, 4-2, against the Edmonton Oilers on Saturday, when Tkachuk had an assist to notch his 999th career point.
Atlanta has dropped two in a row and five of six since posting a season-best five-game win streak earlier in the month.
After a slow start, Ilya Kovalchuk has recorded 14 of his 21 points in November. A 52-goal scorer in 2007-08, Kovalchuk is riding a three-game points streak.
Another bright spot on offense for the Thrashers has been Todd White, who has 20 points after finishing with 37 in 74 games last season. White has two goals and six assists in 15 career games against the Blues.
