Capitals look to keep rolling at home
Dec 12, 2008 - 11:23 AM Ottawa (10-11-5) at Washington (16-10-3), 7:00 p.m. ESTWASHINGTON (Ticker) -- The Washington Capitals aim to improve the Eastern Conference's best home record when they host the Ottawa Senators on Friday.
Washington snapped Boston's five-game winning streak with a 3-1 victory on Wednesday.
Brent Johnson made 33 saves and Alex Ovechkin and Nicklas Backstrom each recorded a goal and an assist for the Capitals, who are 11-1-1 at home.
Alexander Semin returned to the lineup and had an assist in the triumph. The 24-year-old Russian had not played since suffering a back injury in a 3-1 victory over the New Jersey Devils on November 14. Semin was leading the league with 27 points at the time of the injury.
The Senators are coming off a 2-0 blanking at the Chicago Blackhawks on Wednesday. It was the second time Ottawa has been shut out.
Ottawa has not won a road game since October 30, going 0-4-2 since a 2-1 victory at Florida.
The Senators have lost four straight home games at Washington, dating to March 12, 2006.
