Bruins seeking sixth straight win vs. red-hot Devils
Dec 23, 2008 - 11:20 AM Boston (24-5-4) at New Jersey (19-9-3), 7:00 pm ESTNEWARK, New Jersey (Ticker) -- The Boston Bruins look to extend their winning streak to a season-high six games when they face the New Jersey Devils on Tuesday.
A rash of injuries did not slow down the Bruins on Sunday as rookie Blake Wheeler scored two goals during a 6-3 victory over the St. Louis Blues.
Boston suffered a dent in its offensive scheme when Marco Sturm, Patrice Bergeron and Aaron Ward were placed on injured reserve this week. However, registering at least four goals for the seventh straight time in a win helped ease the pain of those circumstances.
"We've done so well on the road, and at the start of a long trip, two points are important," Boston coach Claude Julien said. "Now, seeing our guys get it together on the power play in road games has been tremendous, because it's been super at home. Getting off to a good start is always big, as well, and our special teams were a big part of that, too."
The Bruins, who are making their second stop on a five-game road trip, will take a club that is playing nearly as well as they are.
The Devils are 12-2-1 over their last 15 games. New Jersey posted its third straight win Sunday, earning a 3-2 shootout win over the Philadelphia Flyers.
Scott Clemmensen continues to fill in admirably for four-time Vezina Trophy winner Martin Brodeur, who will be out until late February or March due to an elbow injury that required surgery.
Clemmensen is 11-3-1 with a 2.30 goals-against average and .921 save percentage on the season.
