Injury-plagued Blues look for second straight win

ST. LOUIS (Ticker) -- The St. Louis Blues have become accustomed to dealing with injuries. As they try to notch their first winning streak in over three weeks, they will have to deal with another season-ending blow.

One night after learning veteran leader Paul Kariya will miss the remainder of the campaign, the Blues hope to overcome the Anaheim Ducks on Sunday.

Prior to its 3-2 shootout victory at home over the San Jose Sharks on Saturday, St. Louis found out Kariya will require surgery on his left hip, an injury suffered in a 5-2 loss at Anaheim on November 5.

Kariya, a 34-year-old former member of the Ducks, had recorded two goals and 13 assists in 11 games.

The Blues, who have won twice in their last nine games, are also coping with injuries to defenseman Erik Johnson, captain Eric Brewer, and Andy McDonald.

Goaltender Manny Legace, who has missed time with two separate injuries of his own, is 11-2-1 with a tie and a 2.06 goals-against average against the Ducks in his career.

Anaheim fell, 4-3, in overtime to the Dallas Stars in a battle of Pacific Division rivals on Saturday.

Brendan Morrison scored twice, Chris Kunitz also tallied and Jean-Sebastien Giguere made 34 saves, but the Ducks lost their third consecutive contest.
