Final - 2OT
Coyotes hope for another strong offensive effort
Jan 10, 2009 - 11:44 AM Dallas (17-17-5) at Phoenix (20-17-5), 9:00 p.m. ESTGLENDALE, Arizona (Ticker) -- Though Phoenix Coyotes coach Wayne Gretzky never had much trouble scoring during his storied career, his young team is still struggling to find ways to end dry spells.
Coming off a much-needed win, the Coyotes hope to display more prowess on the offensive end when they host the Dallas Stars on Saturday.
Phoenix entered its 3-2 triumph over the Tampa Bay Lightning with a 126-minute, 26-second goal-less drought, which included a 6-0 home loss to the Chicago Blackhawks on Tuesday.
Still, they are in the Western Conference playoff picture thanks to a 14-6-2 record at home. If anything is to eventually deter Phoenix from clinching its first postseason berth since 2002, it will be a shoddy record on the road (6-11-3) and an abundance of inexperienced talent.
Nevertheless, those youngsters have produced. Kyle Turris scored the game-winner against Tampa Bay, and fellow rookie Mikkel Boedker was elected to skate in the YoungStars Game, which is slated for January 24 at the Bell Centre in Montreal as part of the All-Star weekend festivities.
Dallas, meanwhile, fell to defending Stanley Cup champion Detroit Red Wings, 6-1, on Thursday and surrendered six goals in a game for the fifth time this season.
The Stars have lost two of three and will wrap up a four-game road trip with this contest.
