Resilient Red Wings look for second straight win

LOS ANGELES (Ticker) -- The Detroit Red Wings have perfected the art of finishing games on a high note - a formula that has come in handy during their season-high, six-game road swing.

Coming off a victory against a fellow Western Conference powerhouse, the Red Wings hope to notch their eighth win in nine tries when they visit the Los Angeles Kings on Thursday.

Daniel Cleary and Johan Franzen scored 35 seconds apart midway through the third period Wednesday, helping the Red Wings erase a deficit and post a 4-3 victory over the Anaheim Ducks.

With the victory, the Red Wings improved to 16-3-6 in one-goal games this season. It was also a milestone night, as Nicklas Lidstrom earned his 751st career assist and passed Larry Robinson for eighth place on the all-time list for defensemen.

Lidstrom and the Red Wings bounced back nicely from a deflating 5-4 overtime setback to the Dallas Stars on Monday, which halted their six-game winning streak.

During their current two-game skid, the Kings have been outscored, 8-2. They have also dropped five of their last seven, scoring only four total goals in those setbacks.

Los Angeles may be without rookie defenseman Drew Doughty, who left Monday's 3-1 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning with a bruised thigh after absorbing a hard hit.
