Canadiens aim for strong effort before road trip

MONTREAL (Ticker) -- The Montreal Canadiens have one last shot of finding consistency before embarking on an extensive road trip.

The Canadiens host the Toronto Maple Leafs in a battle of "Original Six" foes on Saturday before heading out on a season-long, six-game journey.

On Friday, Montreal failed to build off a 4-2 win over Pittsburgh as All-Star Carey Price stopped 19 shots but was was exposed in a 3-2 setback to the Buffalo Sabres.

Price missed eight games with a groin injury. Since his return, he has started eight straight games but surrendered three or more goals in seven.

The Canadiens have lost five straight road games and six of eight overall.

Toronto, meanwhile, has suffered through defensive lapses in losing six of eight. Currently on a two-game skid, the Maple Leafs have yielded four goals or more in seven of those contests.

They are coming off a 5-0 setback to the Sabres on Wednesday, falling to 2-2-1 since the All-Star break.
