Oilers looking to end struggles in Minnesota

Feb 8, 2009 - 7:48 AM Edmonton (26-23-3) at Minnesota (26-22-3), 3:00 pm EST

ST. PAUL, Minnesota (Ticker) -- For over two years, the Edmonton Oilers have had nothing to celebrate in Minnesota.

The Oilers will attempt to avoid their ninth straight loss at the Xcel Energy Center on Sunday, when they visit the Minnesota Wild.

During the eight-game slide in St. Paul, Edmonton has managed just nine goals. The Oilers were dealt a 5-1 setback on January 15 in their lone visit to Minnesota this season.

Edmonton will not head into this tilt with any momentum. The Oilers, who have lost three of their last four contests, suffered an 8-3 beating from the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday.

All-Star Niklas Backstrom owns a 10-1-0 record with three shutouts against Edmonton during his career.

Backstrom, who surrendered three goals in 22 minutes before being pulled during a 3-1 loss in their last meeting on January 30, is 25-17-2 with a 2.20 goals-against average and six blankings this season.
