Quick, Kings look to extend winning streak vs. Flames

LOS ANGELES (Ticker) -- Rookie Jonathan Quick has the Los Angeles Kings thinking big.

Quick will likely start in net for the ninth straight contest as the Kings hope to extend their four-game winning streak when they host the Calgary Flames on Thursday.

The 23-year-old Quick has surrendered three or fewer tallies in five of his last eight starts and is 11-6-0 with a 2.40 goals-against average in 19 appearances this season.

Having failed to qualify for the postseason since 2001-02, Los Angeles is three points away from tying Vancouver for the eighth and final spot in the Western Conference playoff picture.

Quick shined in a 3-1 win over the New Jersey Devils on Saturday and helped the Kings escape with a 4-3 shootout triumph on Tuesday.

Calgary, meanwhile, has dropped five of its last six following a three-game winning streak.

After snapping a season-high, four-game skid by skating past Montreal, 6-2, on Monday, the Flames faltered in a 3-2 overtime loss to the Anaheim Ducks two nights later.

Goaltender Miikka Kiprusoff still accounts for all 31 of Calgary's wins this season. He needs 17 more to tie New Jersey Devils netminder Martin Brodeur's single-season record of 48, set in 2006-07. The Flames have 28 regular-season games remaining.
