Huet hopes to spark Blackhawks against Blues
Feb 13, 2009 - 11:20 AM Chicago (30-14-8) at St. Louis (22-25-7), 8:30 p.m. ESTST. LOUIS (Ticker) -- The Chicago Blackhawks will be without one of the mainstays of their current run and goaltender Cristobal Huet hopes to make up for his absence.
Without injured netminder Nikolai Khabibulin available, Huet and the Blackhawks look to continue their recent success when they visit the St. Louis Blues on Friday.
Chicago has won six of eight and Khabibulin has been in net for all but one of the victories.
Khabibulin suffered a lower body injury in the Blackhawks' 3-1 triumph over the Atlanta Thrashers on Wednesday, but Huet has proven to be just as effective this campaign. The 33-year-old is 13-9-3 with a 2.41 goals-against average in 26 contests.
Despite scoring three or more goals in each of its last five games, Chicago has covered up the struggles of reigning Calder Trophy winner Patrick Kane, who has one tally since December 20.
St. Louis, which is coming off a 4-3 shootout loss to the Nashville Predators on Thursday, has dropped two in a row.
Goaltender Chris Mason has started 10 consecutive contests for the Blues, who are 13-11-4 at home.
