Offensively inept Rangers visit Sabres

BUFFALO, New York (Ticker) -- The New York Rangers will try to get their worst-ranked offense rolling Saturday when they visit the Buffalo Sabres in a battle of teams hoping to remain in the playoff hunt.

The Rangers, who have scored an NHL-low 2.34 goals per game this season, currently sit in fifth place in the Eastern Conference. The Sabres are just two points behind New York, holding the eighth spot.

Scott Gomez netted the game-winner and captain Chris Drury collected three assists as the Rangers snapped a three-game losing streak with a 3-1 triumph over the New York Islanders on Wednesday.

Gomez's power-play goal midway through the second period snapped New York's dismal 1-for-35 slump with the man advantage. The Rangers have the 28th-ranked power play in the league at 13.7 percent.

Buffalo, which has lost four of its previous six contests, is coming off Thursday's 6-3 setback to the Philadelphia Flyers.

Defenseman Jaroslav Spacek notched his first two-goal game of the season and Derek Roy also scored for the Sabres, who hold a one-point cushion on the Carolina Hurricanes for eighth in the East.
