Panthers set to host East-leading Bruins
Feb 21, 2009 - 2:53 PM Boston (40-10-8) at Florida (29-21-8), 7:00 pm ESTSUNRISE, Florida (Ticker) -- The Florida Panthers will need a much better effort than last time out to beat the best team in their conference - and possibly the league.
The Panthers will look to bounce back from a dismal showing when they host the Eastern Conference-leading Boston Bruins on Saturday.
Florida is coming off a 4-0 blanking at the hands of Cristobal Huet and the Chicago Blackhawks. It was the fourth time in Huet's career that he shut out the Panthers, who were outshot by a 42-31 margin.
Tomas Vokoun stopped 38 shots for the Panthers, who had won four of their previous five contests.
"We didn't play good today, so I don't think we shouldn't be surprised we didn't pick up points," Vokoun said. "They outplayed us in most areas of the game and that's why we lost.
We've been doing that to other teams and that's why we were winning."
The Bruins are battling for the Presidents' Trophy as they currently hold a one-point edge on the San Jose Sharks for the best record in the league.
David Krejci netted a shorthanded goal and added an assist as the Bruins snapped a four-game losing streak with a 5-1 triumph over the Carolina Hurricanes on Tuesday.
